The NetScaler Gateway plug-in Icon is integrated with Receiver for Windows. This means the Gateway Plug-in is not visible on the taskbar when running a full VPN session.
This creates confusions for a typical user with limited knowledge due there is no “Log Off” action to hit, instead you need to right click on the receiver, hit “about”, “Advanced”, “Gateway”… It is simply not easy for everyone to find.
Method 1:
To show the NetScaler Gateway plug-in icon, edit or create the following registry values:
Run: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\Secure Access Client
Name: DisableIconHide
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 1
Now, restart your client or the NetScaler Gateway plug-in to enable this Change and you’ll notice that both receiver and the gateway plug-in will show on the taskbar…
Method 2:
The cleanest way to do this is to upgrade your Netscaler firmware to version 11 (not released yet, tho), and make use of the new added session profile parameter “Show VPN Plugin Icon with receiver”
Hi Peter, your solution worked a treat, thanks.
Just one thing of concern. I already had the NetScaler 11.x version + the policy setting enabled to “Show VPN Plug-in icon with Receiver”. However some users were not seeing the VPN Plug-in icon still. As a result I have used GPO to push the Registry option and all seems OK.
Any idea why the policy would apply to some users and not all?
Hi mate,
After establishing the VPN tunnel for first time (using the new session profile setting “Show VPN Plug-in icon with Receiver”, exactly as you did), your users need to reboot their devices in order to be able to see the Netscaler plugin next time they log on (it will autostart as soon they reboot their PCs).
You don’t need to push anything through GPOs, because that is basically what happens when you enable that new setting 🙂
